2003, a year the University will remember, I woke up and turned on the
television to see the weathermen all excited and the ties up tight and suits
buttoned up. They were warning us of a major storm coming thru the area, in
the end, 100 m.p.h straight line winds. I looked out the room window to see the
trees bending over, and the rain was truly blowing sideways, I can say I have
never seen anything like it. In the end, Memphis was hurt, power lines down and
out in most of the city, trees into peoples houses and on their cars, debris
everywhere. We were lucky, the Holiday Inn lost power for the remainder of the
University, but across the street at the Fogelman they had power and a kitchen,
so we were fine, I had packed a flashlight. All in all a experience that most of
the students took in stride. A special thanks to the staff of the Fogelman and
the Holiday Inn, for going above and beyond to serve us.
